This is an outstanding goal and installation is easy but involved. This is my second unit of the same model. My first stayed with the house when we moved, believe it or not I think it sold the 300K house more than all the hard work we put into the inside! When we moved the first thing I did was order another unit of the same model and install it within a month of moving in. My son is growing up with these goals. He is 12 now and while he and the old man square off at 10 feet he loves to put it down to 8 feet and dunk the ball all afternoon. It’s impossible to put a price on the time that is shared between father and son but if you want the best $1000 investment into your child’s everlasting memories than you can do no better than buy one of these basketball goals. This is a review of a purchase that I made almost 4 years ago and I even hesitated to publish it this time. One glaring complaint I have with this goal is the false specifications that are published about this goal. When I made my first goal purchase at my old house in Iowa I was then trying to decide between this "Competition" goal and the then $250 higher "Mammoth" goal. In 2004 I was told that the goals were exactly the same except the pole was thicker on the Mammoth, both goals then were advertised to be 3/8" acrylic. The other difference was that the Competition unit was made in America. So then the decision was a no-brainer for me as I try to buy as much American made product as possible. When the unit arrived I was disappointed to find that the acrylic on that unit was in fact around 5/16” thick. I will say this for Competitive Edge products they did eventually apply a $100 credit toward my account. Two years later I moved to WV into a new construction home and no hesitation was made to purchase another goal from Competitive Edge Products. I explained what had happened the last time I purchased the same goal and I was assured that the goal had remained of the same construction albeit the specs were never changed on the website. So when the unit arrived the first thing I did was measure the backboard acrylic thickness with a digital caliper and I even took a digital picture of the measurement. The acrylic measured 0.2805” which is about a 32nd less than 5/16” and nearly 100 thousandths less than the still advertised 3/8”. I reported my findings to Competitive Edge Products and they said that they would accept the return of the unit if I wanted to upgrade to the actual Mammoth system. I did not want to upgrade I just wanted the unit to be as advertised. So the transaction remained intact and I installed the unit and have been playing on it since the spring of 2007. Why so long you may ask to get it setup, well it took that long for the contractor to complete the remaining concrete work for the house which included a third driveway for increased playing area and the actual pouring of the in-ground pier. Then about another year later in 2008 I received an email asking me to review my purchase at Competitive Edge and in doing so I would receive a whopping $5 credit toward a $15 purchase. I replied to the email and asked why the specs had never been changed on the Competition logo product and was told that they would be updated soon. That was the last I heard from Competitive Edge until November of 2009 when I was offered the same measly $5 coupon for review and after 5 months of sitting in my home email “Follow Up” folder I finally decided it was time to write the review and publish this lengthy posting. I am glad to see that at least there is a definitive difference between the actual Mammoth and the Competition logo goal with tempered glass now part of the Mammoth goal. I am also glad that Competitive Edge is at least no longer listing the Competition logo goal as 3/8” acrylic but the listed 0.335” is still far shy of the actual measured 0.280”. Bottom line is if I were buying for a third time I would still go with Competitive Edge Products because I think they still offer the most value for the money. These are good people just like those of us that are contemplating these purchases and I truly believe they want to give you and I as customers the best value. However this time I would definitely pay the extra $250 for the glass backboard and buy the true Mammoth system. Sorry for the novel but if you are like me you will appreciate hearing an unbiased review from the prospective of someone with now over 5 years experience with this product line and with Competitive Edge products. Please do not hesitate to buy from these folks but be sure that your are getting what you expect to get from the advertised product. If I read this review while considering the purchase of the Competition logo unit I would pay the extra $250 and buy the true Mammoth.

By far best basketball hoop on market for the Money. Easy up and down adjustment with one hand and one second. I have a high school boy and he and all his friends use it. Best investment I made on hoop. I deliver pkgs for my job and see a ton of hoops and this system is the best. The other brands have faded rims and backboards and not the thick square post, this one is original color after 3 years. I paid around 900 + for hoop system a few years ago and installed myself. Need a week, good help, and a very deep hole. Competitive Edge is great also, had a minor defect in original backboard, maybe due to shipping, they said never seen any defects like that before and questioned me about it. Sent new backboard out right away. Could not ask for more from a company or hoop. Definite would buy again, Oh and I enjoy playing on it also. Wish I had one of these hoops when I was a kid. T.R.

My Mammoth basketball setup is the envy of my neighborhood. Our family has spent many hours shooting baskets together and I am very pleased with my Mammoth system. I am glad I bought it.

The system is exactly as described and was fairly easy to assemble. Looks great and is easy to adjust!

This system was perfect for our half court. It is easy to adjust for big and small players. Best bang for the buck. Highly recommend.
