Make the upgrade to the 78888 in-ground basketball system. This basketball hoop features a 54-inch acrylic backboard, a 4x4 square pole, and a break-away rim. The soft square pole shape provides greater stability in the ground compared to round poles. Acrylic backboards are ideal for home driveway basketball courts as they hold up much better to aggressive and abusive play. The Slam-It Pro rim holds up well to dunking and aggressive basketball play.
This system comes with a 5-year warranty from Lifetime Products. All steel parts of the system are powder coated to help the metal resist rusting. The 78888 also includes an all-weather white net. All major components of the system are Made in the U.S.A.

A ground sleeve is useful for installation of the basketball system if you think that you will need to remove the system at some point; examples: you are going to move soon, and you want to take the system with you, or you want to take the system down for part of the year.
A great training aid for baskteball shooting practice when shooting for the same position in front of the system is a basketball hoop chute.
Pole pads help protect players from direct impact with the pole of the system. The 0648 is a particularly thick pad, which cushions impact very well.
What is the difference between acrylic and tempered glass?
Acrylic is not as rigid as tempered glass, and tends to hold up better in more abusive conditions.
What is the difference between the 78888 and the 71525?
There are two major differences between these systems - besides the backboard graphic. First, the backboard frame - the steel part that surrounds the backboard material - is thicker on the 78888 than on the 71525. The frame thickness on the 78888 is 1.5 inches, whereas the frame is 1-inch thick on the 71525. A thicker frame can improve the rebound on the backboard and can improve the longevity of the system. Second, the other major difference is the pole shape and size. The pole on the 71525 is 3.5-inch round. The pole on the 78888 is 4x4 square. A larger, square pole provides greater stability in the ground compared to a smaller, round pole.

Great customer service! First time ordering such a large item on the internet and everthing arrived as expected. Called before ordering and associate was very helpful! Basketball goal wasnt too bad installing. The hardest part was waiting for the concrete to dry before we could finish installing!! Kids love the backboard and I love not having to drag out the broom everytime we want to adjust the height. Would definitely recommend.

This hoop is everything that is advertised. All parts fit together perfectly and assembly was not bad at all. The backboard gives consistent bounces for bank shots. The height adjustment is very smooth and easy to adjust. My only problem is that since putting up the hoop I cant get my 6 year old to come in for dinner!

78888 (Nice System / Not so nice Assembly)

The customer service was excellent and I do mean excellent. The product is a very nice product after it gets assembled. The directions were horrible to use. At some points I had to put the directions down and try figure it out like a puzzle. Also, the nuts and bolts were flawed. The nuts would not screw onto its allocated bolt. At one point I turned to my wife and said it shouldn’t be this hard to tighten these nuts and then the bolt literally snapped off into two. Unfortunately this was at the very beginning stage where the gas spring gets mounted to the pole. I had to skip that part and continue on which led to more problems. But at the end of the day(s) and after a trip to the hardware store then having the manufacture mail me out a new gas spring I was eventually able to mount the unit into concrete. I’m not one of these negative kind of guys, but this is the way it happened with this unit. Frustrated with the assembly instructions and materials, but really enjoy playing basketball with family and neighbors. (Updated on 7/20/2011.)
