Lifetime Pole Installation Options
Dreaming of a driveway court that feels as solid as the pros’—and still fits your budget? This guide breaks down every Lifetime in-ground basketball system option, from quick-set direct-bury poles to elite bolt-down systems, so you can match stability, price, and future flexibility in one place. Scroll through the side-by-side pole comparisons, tweak the interactive selector to filter models in seconds, and dive into detailed install tips for each mounting style. By the end, you’ll know exactly which hoop belongs in your yard—and how to set it up for years of slam-dunk afternoons.
1. Direct-Bury (3" & 3.5" Round, 4" Square)
With a direct-bury install, the lower section of the pole is set directly into concrete:
- Permanent placement – once the concrete cures, the pole is there for good.
- No relocation – if you move homes or redesign the court, the pole must stay put.
- Lower cost & simpler install – no extra accessories; just dig, level, and pour.
Direct-bury is the quickest, most economical way to get playing, but offers no flexibility later.
2. Ground-Sleeve System (3.5" Round, 4" Square)

This option still uses concrete, but the pole slides into a steel sleeve that you set first:
- Sleeve is permanent, pole is portable – remove the pole later without breaking concrete.
- Versatile court layout – upgrade, reposition, or take the hoop when you move.
- Near direct-bury stability – a locking wedge keeps the pole tight inside the sleeve.
You gain future flexibility with only a small bump in cost and complexity.
3. Bolt-Down / Anchor-Kit (4" & 5" Square)
Higher-end Lifetime systems ship with a four-bolt anchor plate and J-bolts:
- Set the anchor plate in concrete, J-bolts pointing up.
- After the slab cures, lower the pole over the protruding bolts.
- Tighten the hardware to square and secure the system.
Why choose bolt-down?
- Fully removable – unbolt the pole and take it with you; just set a new anchor kit at the next location.
- Seasonal storage – detach the pole if you need the space in winter.
- Pro-level rigidity – standard on 4" and 5" square, institutional-grade hoops.
Anchor-kit models cost more and require careful leveling, but replacing an anchor kit beats buying a whole new hoop when you relocate.
