Kodiak Tents Shipped to Haiti and Chile as temporary shelters.

Before proceeding I need to make it very clear that using Kodiak tents as a shelter over extended use as explained in this article is not covered under the warranty. Normal camping puts the use of this tent at or around three weeks per year. That is covered. Leaving it out for months on end or a year it's not covered.

Many customers that purchase a Kodiak tent you so not only for camping purposes, but to give them a piece of mind should there be a natural disaster requiring a portable shelter. It may seem unrealistic on its face, but these exact tents have actually been shipped to locations around the world to provide shelter to families facing earthquakes, flooding, and hurricanes.

Kodiak sent tents to Haiti with the LDS church, and another group called Friends of Haiti. Previously, in the case with the LDS church they had nylon tents that lasted about 2 months before turning to dust from the UV light. They shipped a sample to Haiti for local priesthood to make sure it would work. They loved it and a shipment was quickly sent on its way. The church also organized a shipment of Kodiak tents to provide temporary shelter for the victims of the earthquake in Chile. They work surprisingly well.

We have had stories of people living in our tents for up to a year. We actually got a tent back that was lived in for an entire year by a homeless person. That is a whole lot of wear when you consider it - going in and out I don't know how many times a day. The zipper had exhausted, the floor had worn smooth. Regardless, it was in surprising shape all things considered.

The UN also sends canvas tents as a simple relief shelter(not Kodiak brand) as canvas can withstand the elements better than nylon and other tent materials.

After speaking with the owner of Kodiak Canvas we were reassured that they are a good fit for emergency preparedness. He says, "I think you can say that our current tents would provide live-in shelter for about a year if needed. Kodiak Canvas tents are a far better option than polyester/nylon tents on the market." So, go camping and make many fun memories with family and friends knowing that these tents can be used for more than just a weekend warrior camping trip.
