Using the tension adjustment mechanism:

The tension of the steps is adjustable. When first using the steps, turn the knob on the front of the mini stepper to the right to release the step. Once the steps are released, turning the knob back to the left will allow you to adjust the tension to increase or decrease resistance in your exercise routine.
