This portable basketball system from Lifetime Products features a 50 in. Steel-Framed Shatterproof backboard with an Action Grip® height adjustment mechanism that adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet high in 6-inch increments. It also includes a Slam-It® Rim with an all-weather nylon net and a 3.5 in. diameter round steel pole. With a 35-gallon portable base, this system can easily be moved to a desired location. Q: Should I fill the portable base with sand or water?

A: That depends entirely on how much weight you think you will need to hold up to how the system will be used. As noted on the product, when filled with water, the base weighs about 248 lbs. When filling the base with sand, the base typically weighs about 1.5 times the weight of the base filled with water, depending on the density of the sand you use. Note that the heavier the base, the sturdier the system; but, the system will also be more difficult to move.

A: There is no major difference. The two differences are the size of the backboard (50" vs. 52") and the red/orange graphics on the backboard. The base, adjustment mechanism, pole, rim, etc. are all identical.

A: The 71566 Basketball system has a polycarbonate backboard. Polycarbonate backboards are considered a middle quality as far as rebound goes. Rebound refers to how well the basketball bounces of the backboard. Acrylic and Glass backboards are considered to have a better rebound than polycarbonate. Polycarbonate has a better rebound than plastic. The 50 inch width of the backboard of this system is a middle range size as professionally, a 72 inch width is used.
