Lifetime 78888 54-Inch In-Ground Basketball Hoop

Bring adjustable, in-ground play to your driveway with the Lifetime 78888. Its 54-inch steel-framed acrylic backboard, 4-inch square steel pole, and Slam-It Pro® rim deliver a sturdy setup for practice and family games. The one-hand Power Lift® mechanism adjusts the rim from 7.5 to 10 feet in continuous increments. Designed for direct installation in concrete, this model does not include a ground sleeve; a compatible Lifetime 4-inch Square Ground Sleeve is sold separately if you want the option to remove or relocate the pole later.

Backboard

The 4.75 mm (about 0.2-inch) acrylic playing surface offers the look of glass with a steel frame that supports a consistent rebound. The 1.5-inch frame adds structure around the 54 x 33-inch board. Screen-printed graphics use UV-protected inks to resist peeling and fading outdoors.

Slam-It Pro® Rim

The 18-inch solid-steel rim has double-compression springs and a wrap-around brace for aggressive play. An all-weather nylon net is included.

Adjustment Mechanism

Power Lift® adjusts from 7.5 to 10 feet in continuous increments with one hand, so players can set the rim to a comfortable height. When fully extended, the adjustment handle reaches 10.5 inches behind the back of the pole; allow for that clearance if installing near a wall or fence.

Pole

The three-piece, 4-inch square steel pole has a powder-coated, rust-resistant finish. Compared with recreational hoops that use a 3.5-inch round pole and a 1-inch backboard frame, this model pairs a larger square pole with a 1.5-inch steel backboard frame for a more substantial playing structure.

Well Built And Sturdy

I bought this for my grandsons to practice when they are at my home. I assembled all but the last step on my own. The video and the instructions are a must, and the steps must be followed in the exact order. Three men are needed on the last step, which involves lifting the assembled goal and stabbing it into the bottom section of the pole, which has been cemented into the ground. We need two men standing in the bed of a truck while the third man on the ground stabbed the pole to accomplish the last step. We could not do it using two step ladders and two people on step step ladders as shown in the video, although we tried that first. I am well pleased with how well built and easily adjustable this goal is and we will enjoy years of use by having it in our yard.

Love It!

Sturdy, great looking, easy to raise and lower. Hardest part was finding someone to put it together and install it.

Awesome hoop!

We bought this hoop last year and it has been awesome! It was fairly easy to put together and install with a little muscle help. It has been very sturdy and we love how easy it is to adjust the height. The power lift system is epic! We have ages 35 down to 3 that want to play, and we adjust it frequently. It is very smooth to adjust. We have enjoyed this hoop and it seems to hold up in the cold or warm weather just fine. We also bought the court marking kit, but we haven't had a chance to paint it on yet. Excited for that when the snow melts!

Works well

We've had this installed for more than 5 years. The handle recently broke, but was replaced free of charge by Lifetime.

Great Product

Very pleased with this product. I found the directions to be very good and easy to follow. Before assembly, I highly recommend carefully walking through the check list of items. Keep all parts in their bags to make them easier to find when needed during assembly. Many of the nuts were VERY tight. This is likely intentional. Use a ratchet wrench and a little lubricant if needed (Vaseline). If you are not a do-it-yourself person, the assembly may take longer.

Great hoop

This hoop is everything that is advertised. All parts fit together perfectly and assembly was not bad at all. The backboard gives consistent bounces for bank shots. The height adjustment is very smooth and easy to adjust. My only problem is that since putting up the hoop I cant get my 6 year old to come in for dinner!

Q: What is the difference between the 78888 and the 71525?

Asked by: Admin - 8/12/2015 8:04:15 AM

A: There are two major differences between these systems - besides the backboard graphic. First, the backboard frame - the steel part that surrounds the backboard material - is thicker on the 78888 than on the 71525. The frame thickness on the 78888 is 1.5 inches, whereas the frame is 1-inch thick on the 71525. A thicker frame can improve the rebound on the backboard and can improve the longevity of the system. Second, the other major difference is the pole shape and size. The pole on the 71525 is 3.5 inch round. The pole on the 78888 is 4x4 square. A larger, square pole provides greater stability in the ground compared to a smaller, round pole
