Portable Basketball Hoops

Portable basketball systems come in all shapes and sizes. People often choose to get portable systems, because they do not have to deal with this meant work and other intimidating and permanent installation aspects. The portable base is still up with water and has drain plugs that allow them to be emptied quickly and even put away for storage in the winter. Most of them have wheels where they can be rolled around once a portion of the water is drained. The bases are designed to expand so that in freezing weather the frozen water does not damage the base. Some customers do put nontoxic antifreeze in and other customers put in a gel supplement to lower the freezing temperature as a precaution.

The largest common size is 54 inches and the smallest size includes the youth and toddler portable systems with backboards measuring at about 32 inches. Keep in mind that in the NBA the standard backboard height is 72 inches horizontally from left to right. Portable systems are designed to be a bit smaller when it comes to the backboard size, because the larger the backboard the more top-heavy the entire basketball system can be and it's important to make sure it is counterbalanced with weight properly so that it does not fall over. Portable basketball systems can fall over in the wind. If there is an unusual micro burst, tornado and hurricane wind speeds, and other unusual weather events it could topple one of these over and damage the backboard or property. It could even injure somebody if the proper precautions are not taken. The owners manual warns the customer that in high winds to make sure to lay the basketball system on its side. Sometimes customers will reinforce it with more weight on the base such as extra sandbags, anchoring it to concrete, or anchoring into the dirt with cable straps. Installation is considered to be easier on portable systems and depending on the model it can take anywhere from one hour to 3 1/2 hours to assemble.
