Vestibule Wing 1604 (previously 0604) for Kodiak 14-foot Canvas Tents

The wing vestibule accessory will enhance your awning's leisure area by providing additional shade, and protection from wind and rain. It attaches underneath the front of the awning and extends out to the ground.

Two side wings provide additional cover on the sides. It creates a nice space to store gear, put some chairs, or keep a pet. It also adds privacy if the front windows are open. Made with canvas (the old model was polyester, denier cloth).

It also adds privacy if the front windows are open. Made with the same cotton canvas as our tents. Fits all Kodiak Canvas 10x14 Flex-bow tents. Note: Depending on your tent, you may be required to add two 3/8 inch grommets* to your awning for optimal fit. The wing vestibule does not fully enclose the awning area. There will be openings on both sides.

In order to properly install the wing vestibule, you must first ensure that your Flex-bow tent has the required grommets on the end of the awning flap. You will need five grommets as illustrated in figure 1 below. The grommets are represented by the black circles and numbered 1-5. Depending on when your tent was made, and the specific model, you may be required to add two or three additional 3/8 inch grommets.

If you do not have the required grommets kits a do-it-yourself kit can be found at a local hardware store such as Home Depot or Lowes. Here is the kit we recommend: grommets:

Grommets 3 and 4 should be placed 4 inches from the front edge of the awning as shown below. Grommet 5 should
be in the center of the awning on the same horizontal plane as grommets 1 and 2.

Assembly of 1604 is Very Simple

1) Assemble the tent first. Tie the end of a guy rope onto each of the grommet holes 1, 2, and 5 (as numbered
in figure 1). Note that two guy ropes are included with the tent. An additional guy rope is included with this
wing vestibule accessory.
2) Join the awning ridge pole. Loosen the thumbscrew and lengthen the pole to the width of the awning. Place
the awning ridge pole across the awning uprights (included with the tent). The posts at the top of the
awning upright poles will go through the holes at the ends of the awning ridge pole. Face the thumbscrew
3) Insert the posts on the awning upright poles through their respective grommets in the top of the wing
4) Now insert the posts on the awning upright poles through grommets 3 and 4 of the tent awning flap.
5) Expand the awning ridge pole until it is taut and tighten the thumbscrew finger tight.

6) Position the 1601 wing vestibule so the bottom edge is flush to the ground and taut. Secure with stakes.
7) Secure the guy ropes with stakes. Adjust so they are taut.
8) Secure the top of the wing vestibule to the awning ridge pole with the Velcro-like strips.

This vestibule is an absolute MUST if you are purchasing the Kodiak canvas tent. It is simply an amazing addition to your tent and is extremely useful in keeping your gear out of the weather. Plus, it gives you an added outdoor privacy area that is usually nonexistent with a tent. A MUST BUY ITEM!!!

I am reviewing the vestibule wing for the Kodiak 14 tent. I purchased this at the same time as the tent. It comes with a very well built, adjustable spreader as well as the necessary stakes and a bag. This is a great add on to the tent and will (I believe) work out well during inclement weather.

Great option!
The vestibule is worth getting, it adds more area than we were expecting. For sitting in privacy or setting up meals it will be great. Ours did not come with the additional grommets, but they shouldn't be hard to add.

Our family used to always pitch a kitchen tent/canopy when we camp, and this provides enough room for cooking and eating space for our family. I'd recommend two tarps for the walls and an extra short pole for entrance. This adds a ridge pole between the two awning poles and make it more rigid. If well staked, it looks like it can withstand quite a bit of wind as well. At this price, adding so much functionality of a family tent is very much worth it. Highly recommended!

Due to constant rain in the Northeast. I have not had the opportunity to assemble my tent. What I have observed so far is of top quality. Excellent customer service. Prompt delivery.

One thing I don't understand, why people complain about adding grommets? I am a woman 34 years old and 130 pounds had no problem adding grommets. It was so easy and quick. I mean it. I bought this vestibule from Cabelas because competitive edge didn't have in stock when I need it for a long trip but it doesn't change a quality. I add the grommets and set up vestibule at home just to check it out ??. After a long trip I love this vestibule and no regrets at all. It's amazing extra space for your gears and privacy when front windows opened. Love it.

I love the vestibule, it cut a breeze down so I didn't have to wear a lot of clothes when I had my coffee in the morning and it has room for my mt. bike which means dry seat.

Good Addition - Grommets not so much
Great item, added privacy and storage. Grommets need to be back farther than shown in the picture for the center of the canopy to fall properly. Otherwise, perfect.

Q: Is the canvas fire resistant? I have a Whelen Tent that is and we often bring our solo stove close to the tent for heat. It has never been an issue and the canvas stays in good shape with no spark holes.
Asked by: buck - 6/23/2020
A: It is not fire resistant.

Q: Is the tarp designed to be staked down with the tent?
Asked by: Customer - 10/29/2018
A: Contrary to what you may see posted online it is not designed to be staked down with the tent. Since it is beneath the tent it will not go anywhere and it is designed just to be slightly smaller than the footprint of the tent to help avoid getting water between the tarp and the tent during a rainstorm. The tarp does have corner loops sewn on so as to make it more useful in a variety of ways such as covering your firewood in a storm.

Q: anyone had the vestibule up during a high wind storm? Wondering if it would compromise the flex of the tent in heavy wind situation.
Asked by: Mom2cats - 5/1/2017
A: Yes, I have and the wind can pull the smaller vestibule stakes right out of the ground and can potentially damage the tent. It is advised to take down the vestibule in wind.

Q: I have read several places "depending on your tent you may need to add grommets." Which model requires this? And which model(s) do not require the extra grommets?
Asked by: Dave1968 - 11/13/2016
A: Out of the box it works just fine, but you will need to add grommets if you want the awning to overlap the vestibule. Please look at the details of the vestibule in the description for specific details, but basically adding grommets makes the awning overlap the vestibule so that rain does not get down through the seam. However, 9/10 customers don't add it since the vestibule does not completely enclose the awning and a rainstorm is going to get the items underneath it wet anyway. We suggest if you purchase this to set it up and determine whether you think you need the extra grommets or not. The grommet kit is about $11 from Home Depot. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.

Q: Do I really need to use the additional grommets?
Asked by: Customer - 1/27/2016
A: No, it isn't required. In fact, most customers do not add the additional grommets. The top telescoping pole seems to take up the slack just fine. If you needed to overlap, then you might choose the grommets, but we suggest setting it up and seeing if you feel you really need those. You can get them for about $11 from Home Depot.

Q: How does this hold up to wind?
Asked by: Customer - 1/27/2016
A: It holds up just fine and mild wind, but the shape of it can act as a parachute if you get winds perpendicular to the tent. Worst-case it is quite simple to put down and put back up if you are experiencing threatening wind.
