The 90143 has been in production for over 10 years. It’s a wonderful durable playset that has made thousands upon thousands of children happy. So why did 91028 replace it and what are the differences?
Lifetime Products is constantly improving their products. If there are significant changes, a new model number will be assigned to the product. The changes on this playset are not significant as far as the product goes, but they are significant as far as the delivery experience goes. The older 90143 did not fit on standard liftgates making it sometimes an awkward delivery where the driver had to break open the crate and hand down parts one at a time.
The newer model 91028 changed all that. The biggest difference is the slide. The one-piece slide made the crate/pallet packaging too large for many liftgates (the little elevator on the back of the truck that lowers it to your driveway). The slide is now a two-piece 9’ slide fixing that issue. Do people notice the two piece over one? We’ve yet to have a customer notice as the slide fits together perfectly. Meaning, the newer slide is just as durable as the older design. People do have a better delivery experience – that’s for sure.
What other differences are there? Please see the chart below for a side-by-side comparison, but the only changes worth noting besides the slide includes the following: the older model had rubber tube grips on the swing chains and the newer model has a slick looking rubber-coated chain. The overall width of the older playset is 18’10”, whereas the newer model is 17’7” – meaning the newer model is about 15” narrower. This distance was primarily taken off the trapeze bar support tube that hangs off the side. The extra width wasn’t necessary to allow for playing on the trapeze bar.
