Lifetime Basketball Hoop History
Let's start off with a little Lifetime basketball hoop history to help explain the steps to finding the right backboard for your system. Lifetime has made basketball hoops for over 40 years now. During this time, Lifetime has altered or added to their designs to make their systems exceptional. Their mounting brackets in particular have changed sizes, shapes, and attachments over the years. When looking for a replacement backboard for a Lifetime system, these changes in mounting brackets produces the most difficult problem to solve when looking for a replacement.
Mounting Bracket Challenges
A common thing we hear from customers is after they select a backboard from our website and assume it will work because it looks similar to their backboard or the sizes are similar. Unfortunately, similar looks and similar backboard measurements are not enough to determine compatibility. Lifetime has too many different types of system to e able to use appearance and backboard measurements alone. So what steps do you need to follow? The steps are actually quite simple.
Steps to Finding Your New Backboard
The steps below will help you with finding the the right backboard.
- Is your basketball system made by Lifetime Products. You can verify by simply looking for a manufacturer's logo somewhere on the system, most commonly found on the backboard.
- Is the pole shape round? Poles are either circular or square. The brackets used on square poles are not compatible with retailed backboards. The brackets on round poles are sometimes compatible.
- Is the diameter of the pole 3.5-inches. There are 3.5, 3.0, and 2.75-inch pole sizes. For retailed backboards, only the 3.5-inch diameter size will work.
- Is the mounting bracket that attaches to the backboard a Y-shaped bracket? This bracket is the last piece to the puzzle. The bracket literally looks like a capital letter Y.
If you can answer "yes" to all of these questions, then any of the retailed Lifetime brand backboard and rim combos will be compatible with your system. If you answered "no" to any of these questions, your next best option is to contact Lifetime Products directly to determine if they can special order your backboard. They can be reached at 800-225-3865.

Your system must have a round 3.5-inch diameter pole and a Y-shaped mounting bracket. If all compatibility requirements are met, retailed Lifetime backboard and rim combos should work with your system.

If your system does not meet the compatibility requirements, your best option is to contact Lifetime Products directly at 800-225-3865 to see if a special-order replacement backboard is available.
