As an 81 year old man I recently purchased a 9x8 canvas tent from Competitive Edge Products and had the opportunity to talk with a gentleman named Charlie and had a number of questions prior to my purchase. Buying a quality tent is one thing but to have someone help you thru your purchase and answer ALL your questions is as important as the choice of tent. As soon as Charlie picked up the phone he was determined to be of help to me. He answered EVERY question I asked of him and not once did he become annoyed with me regarding some of the questions I threw at him. You could tell he was VERY knowledgeable about how he answered my inquires about this tent I planned to buy, but I was not going to make that decision to buy until I evaluated all I what I learned. My plan was to check three companies before I pulled the trigger. But to my surprise, Charlie NEVER pressured me to buy or made me feel uncomfortable during our call. Not only did Competitive Edge Products have the BEST pricing, provided me with one of the best experiences I have had when purchasing a high ticket item and at the same time have some one like Charlie to guide me thru my purchase. I HIGHLY recommend if you are in the market for a new canvas tent, give yourself the opportunity to ask for Charlie at extension #30 and be prepared for a GREAT experience and the get you the best pricing of all their competitors. Hunter Hiker Camper

Really like the tent. Did a long weekend shakedown to test it before anything longer. Set up was as the instructions and video showed. Everything pretty much as advertised. Enough room for two, for one with a cot…it’s like a hotel room. Stayed in Monterey area with heavy fog…no condensation inside tent, that was nice. Top of tent absorbed heavy mist…dried out by 11 a.m. with limited sun. Highly recommend.

Took this with me to Ft Jefferson in the Dry Tortugas under very windy conditions and held up great. Other folks had to re-stake their small flimsy expensive tents where my tent barely moved in the high winds. Q: What is fabric treated with??

A: It's a dry treatment as opposed to the traditional army tents a lot of people are familiar with from decades ago. They breath well and there is no waxy coating that stiffens in the cold.

Q: 1. Will this fit a cot that is 6' 6" long and 24" high along the 8' wall without the tent touching the ends of the cot? A: Since it's completely waterproof there is no need for a rainfly, but there is a covertop that can help protect the roof from pine sap, bird droppings, etc. The covertop accessory is out of stock for several weeks I'm sorry to say.

Q: I recently ordered a flex bow 9x8 (order #p160811) with the ground trap. The picture and information for the tarp shows that it has straps that match up to the stakes on the 9x8 tent. The tarp I received appears to be e plane tarpe. It does not have any straps on it.

A: The Tarps were recently redesigned, they no longer have straps, but instead they have grommets, The tarps are smaller than the size of the tent so that it fits underneath the tent.

A: Absolutely yes. I own two Kodiaks and regularly heat both with Buddy heaters. Just follow Enerco's recommendations as to clearances from flammables and ventilation. The manual says to allow 18 square inches which is just about covered with the vents. I drop a window or two down a couple of inches and still stay toasty warm in below freezing wather.

Q: Could I jerry rig a window AC unit to something like this?

A: Yes, people do that all the time. There are portable AC units that have the heat exaust hose you can run out your door and zip around it. There are window mounted ones which seem to work better, but require more jerry-rigging as you'd have to set it on something and still zip the window around it. If you end up doing it send us pictures.

Q: I typically waterproof the outside of every tent with kiwi camp dry water repellent. Is this advisable for these tents or is that a no-no?

A: Yes, you can use the silicone-based kiwi camp dry. It is not necessary though unless you run into issues in the years with the leaking, but most people go 10+ years without needing it.

Q: I have a question about the floor plan photos. There is one with silhouette and the dimensions are 6x9 and the other is 8x9. I'm assuming the 6 foot measurement is trying to represent the height and the true footprint is closer to 9x8. Also how difficult is this going to be staking into AZ rock and sand? The setup videos I have seen are always on grass which I will rarely have that luxury. I've seen people use impact wrenches with different stakes.

A: 6' is the height. 9x8 is the width and depth. Some soil is like concrete and you may need lag bolts with large washers and a driver if it's incredibly solid. You will know your soil best, but if it is as you've described I'd bring some lag bolts and a socket wrench with decent torque. Great question.

A: Currently, Our system charges your card at the time of purchase. That also secures your place in line as they do ship in the order received. We are working on a pre-order function, but it isn't ready quite yet. Alternatively, we do have a PayPal credit with a monthly payment option if you prefer. A: People get pretty creative with these. Some use actual rugs. Some people use the outdoor turf you can by at Lowes (available in green or brown), some people use moving blankets or drop cloths. We sell the canvas floor liner for this function.

A: The Free Tarp serves as an extra layer of protection for the bottom of your tent. It is the same size as the outline of the tent, so just stake it through the same loops as the tent when you set up your tent.

Q: What are the exact door dimensions at the base for the flex bow tents? I use a wheelchair that is 24 inches wide and I need to know whether the chair will fit through the D shaped door without damaging the bottom edge or other part of the tent. A CE customer service representative said that the opening was at least 24 inches but did not have exact dimensions so there doesn’t seem to be any information available. I would appreciate it if the door dimensions were listed as part of the tent specs.

A: The door is at least 24". For a wheelchair, I would recommend a larger tent, such as one of the Cabin Tents like the 6121 which has a much larger door opening on the side. If you need exact dimensions, then I would recommend calling 801-508-2880. I have the tent, but I don't have it set up right now for exact measurements.

Q: I am considering purchasing this tent for myself when I go camping alone, would a queen size air mattress fit and have room for a small table and chair? I purchased the 6133 with enclosure last year for family camping and we absolutely LOVE IT, but it is very heavy.

A: I have this tent, and it depends on how much you stretch it when you stake it down. It you stretch it pretty taught it will be just about 9' x 8, if it's a little looser, or if there is high grass, or other objects underneath, then it will be a little less than that.

Q: Please can you supply me with a quote for 6 full sets of equipment to erect the Kodiak 9x8 model 6098 please? We are a safari conservation company based out of Botswana. We have 6 of them but the poles and adjustable bits and pieces are now worn and screws don't turn and springs are all but gone inside the poles. IE sliding sleeves no longer work and so on. We begin our new trails season on the 28th of May and urgently require these parts to be with us within the next few weeks at least. look forwards to hearing from you via my mailing address.

A: I think it's around 60# or so total. I carry the Pole bag separately from the tent bag. They are each close to the same weight therefore with one in left hand and one in right they are fairly easy to carry as they are pretty much balanced

A: The answer provided is NOT accurate. The Ground Tarp is SMALLER than the tent. According to KODIAK, it is that way to prevent water from flowing under the tent.
From "LOOP" to "LOOP", the TENT is 100"x109". ... The Tarp is 92"x104"

A: The tarp is specially made to the same size as the tent, so it will line up with the bottom of the tent. The tarp serves to add an extra layer of protection to the bottom of the tent in order to keep it in good condition.

A: Flex-bow refers to the rods on the roof that allow for quick setup. They are also flexible and allow them to bow under pressure instead of snapping, hence the name Flex-bow

Q: On a scale of 1-10, how well does this tent protect from the elements such as rain, sun, and hot/cold climates?

A: After you have seasoned the tent (set up the tent, wet it down with a light water spray, and allow the tent to dry completely) the tent does very well with keeping rain out. Canvas is fairly heavy material compared to nylon tents and it is does very well with keeping the sun out too. Canvas does breathe a bit, but if you do not have windows open in hot temperatures, the tent can get pretty hot inside. The tent is excellent is cold temperatures. Numbers are subjective, but if you twisted my arm, I would say rain - 9, sun 9, heat 7, cold 9.
