Great hoop! Kids have already gotten tons of use out of it. Seems really sturdy. The only complaint is the assembly. Took a handful of us several hours to put together. Be prepared.

Awesome/Lock down Lifesaver

This hoop is a great hoop. It is super solid for a portable and the price was more reasonable than a glass backboard would have been. This has been a lifesaver for my son during our home virus imprisonment. He wants to play in high school but the local government covered all the rims in the city to prevent even solo use. Our backyard is tiny, but this paired with an ICS3 basketball return, my son can get up hundreds of shots in a brief period. Competitive Edge came through, shipped on time. I very happy with this transaction.

Very happy with the quality of the materials and final product! It has only been assembled a week + but we are very pleased, especially our son. Assembly required a more variety tools than usual and definitely 2 people at time, but wasn't that bad partly because the quality of materials. It took 4-5 hours with breaks.

Worth the absurd assembly!

We were very impressed with Competitive Edge's customer service. The hoop is terrific but be advised that the assembly is a bear. My husband is very handy and fortunately he has an extensive tool collection. We had read other reviews indicating what we experienced first hand so we were prepared. If you are not handy, I would recommend hiring someone to assemble. My oldest son is a budding engineer so between the three of us, we got it done! The manual is clear and well explained, but many of the components are awkward to assemble. We were bummed that upon opening the packing materials, some of the powder coating was spotty (Mostly on the corners of the backboard) and some of the black acrylic paint on the reverse side of the backboard was scratched in a few spots. Since ours will be outdoors, we are researching whether or not we should apply a clear Rust-Oleum type spray to the areas where the powder coating isn't solid. Overall, a fantastic hoop and Competitive Edge had hands down the best price.

Great Product

I hired a professional to put this together. He did an excellent job and it is an excellent product. The backboard is solid and the ball comes off it almost like a glass backboard, also it is a huge backboard. This product is well made and my grandson and family love it. I will be having lots of company in my yard after putting this goal set up. Thanks lifetime for such a good product. This is a $800. 00 set and when I bought it was on sell for $379. 00 what a deal. Putting it together

The finished product is excellent, but it takes two people more than 5 hours to construct the equipment. the most difficult part of the installation process is to determine which nuts/bolts to use...I suggest that the manufacturer package the parts and label them for each step in the operation. Overall, this is a fine backboard and stand system and my grandchildren are immensely pleased with it!

Q: How does this hoop differ from model 90469 other than one is portable and the other is inground (90469)? Also I read that the lifetime model 90469 does not have any anchor points on the base and the pole needs to be buried in cement for support, maybe needing a ground sleeve. If this is how it installs can I (or how can I) take it off the ground to reinstall somewhere else? Could I use this anchor for this hoop instead of cement. A: It looks like the pro base would work, though it seems to me like it would be better just to go with an in-ground system in the first place. If you wish to move the basketball system later you can use a ground sleeve which will allow you to move the pole later on. They are actually pretty different, one has a square pole, and the other is round, they have different adjustment mechanisms, and one is portable, and the other is in-ground.

Q: The lift system does not work. The pin or bolt is not thick enough to push the pin on the cylinder far enough? I have to use a screw driver to push the pin in then the unit adjusts.

Q: Is this backboard shatter proof?

A: This is acrylic which is the next best thing to glass and one step above the shatterproof poly carbonate boards. Acrylic has a very true bounce and it is not loud. The trade off is that if the base is not weighted properly and a bad storm comes and the system falls over, then the backboard can crack. It should not break ever just by playing basketball. If you are looking for the poly carbonate version of this same system please check out model number 71524 as that has the shatterproof board. They are a little bit louder and the bounce is a little bit more bouncy when you make a bank shot. So, it is practically indestructible, but the bounce is not like what you would find in a high school or recreation center. Feel free to contact us with any other questions.

A: It does not include a pole pad. They are sold separately. The model number is 0602. This item does include a frame pad for the bottom of the backboard, however.

Q: Should I fill the portable base with sand or water?

A: That depends entirely on how much weight you think you will need to hold up to how the system will be used. As noted on the product, when filled with water, the base weighs about 248 lbs. When filling the base with sand, the base typically weighs about 1.5 times the weight of the base filled with water, depending on the density of the sand you use. Note that the heavier the base, the sturdier the system; but, the system will also be more difficult to move.

A: Assuming you are comparing polycarbonate and acrylic backboards of the same size and thickness, polycarbonate backboards tend to last longer than acrylic backboards, while acrylic backboards tend to provide a better rebound.

A: Differences between models 71522, 90088, and 71524: The 71522 has an Acrylic board for improved rebound and less flex, but is less strong than the polycarbonate boards that the 90088 and 71524 have. The 71522 has a 1.5 inch thick backboard frame. The 71524 and 90088 have a 1-inch thick frame. The 71522 and 90088 have rigid extension arms that mount directly to the board frame. The 71524 uses standard straight extension arms that mount to a Y-bracket instead of directly to the backboard. They are all great systems that will last for many years.
