Q: My 60" Spalding backboard which is 15+ years old finally needs to be replaced. The bolt pattern on the current backboard for mounting has 4 bolts. They are 17" apart in width and 8" apart vertically. Do you have a backboard that fits that pattern?

A: We cannot confirm a backboard that fits a 17-inch horizontal by 8-inch vertical four-bolt pattern from the specifications available. The Lifetime 71526 shown here is a 54-inch backboard and rim combo designed for compatible Lifetime mounts or the separately sold Lifetime Universal Mounting Kit; we would not recommend ordering it as a direct replacement for a 60-inch Spalding system without checking compatibility first. Please contact Spalding with your model number and photos of the existing mounting bracket and bolt pattern.

A: This backboard and rim combo is designed primarily as a replacement system for specific Lifetime Products in-ground and portable basketball systems, so compatibility depends on your existing pole and mounting bracket. In most cases it will fit Lifetime systems that use a standard mounting bracket with matching hole patterns. It is not a universal fit for all in-ground poles from other brands. If your current setup is not Lifetime (or you’re unsure), the key things to check are: Mounting bolt pattern (hole spacing on your bracket) Backboard size compatibility Whether your pole uses a direct mount vs. a universal bracket If you can share your existing system model or a quick photo of the mounting bracket, we can help confirm fitment before you order.

A: No, it is not compatible with any other brand besides Lifetime I'm sorry to say. Goliath is made by Goalsetter and they have their own bolt patterns for replacement backboard and rims. You'll want to call them at Goalsetter - 800-362-4625

A: The only brackets that we have for this backboard fit a 3.5" round pole (model 1044 adjustable) and the 9594 that fits a 3.5" round pole, but is non-adjustable.

A: Great question. If you only have a pole and you want to purchase this backboard and rim combo 71526 you'll need to make sure your pole is 3.5" round. If it is, either the adjustable (most popular) 1044 brackets or the fixed height (most popular for roof and wall mounts) 9594 brackets work great. If you go with the fixed height bracket your pole needs to be 10.5' out of the ground or higher for your rim to reach standard 10'.

Q: I’m interested in replacing my competition backboard. Looking at your 54 inch backboard. Is that 54 inches for corner to corner diagonal ?

A: If your Lifetime backboard says "Competition" or "Competition Series" on it, then this 71526 backboard will not be compatible. It works with most Lifetime systems, but not the competition series. In fact, the only place you can get a replacement backboard that is compatible is by phone only by calling 800-225-3865.

A: You will need Model 9594 Fixed Height Bracket or 1044 adjustable height bracket to mount to a wall. The brackets will include instruction manuals for installing them, and you can also call 1-800-225-3865x2 option for for additional assistnace.

Q: I am looking to replace the backboard of an older Goaliath system which uses four horizontal bolts attached to the center struts. The struts are end-to-end 17" across and vertically the bolts would attach 17.5" apart from top to bottom. Can I get the width of the struts and also the distance between the bolt attachment holes? A: The 71526 does not work with a goaliath system. No Lifetime backboard works with a Goaliath system.

First: Is the system made by Lifetime?
Second: Is the pole round?
Third: Is the pole diameter 3.5-inches?
Fourth: Is there a Y-Shaped bracket where the mounting arms mount to the pole?
If you can answer yes to all of these, than any Lifetime backboard and rim combo we sell will work with your hoop. If you answer no to any of these, than the backboards we sell will definitely not work with your system, and you will need to call 1-800-225-3865 to get the backboard you need. A: This is likely a step down from that. The complete inground systems with 54" boards are sometimes glass or acrylic which is a step up from polycarbonate.

Q: What are the minimum and maximum dimensions for the wall mount bracket installation to the wall?

A: That depends on the bracket. Model 9594 brackets have a wall mount minimum of 16" Wide x 20" High Model 1044 is the same, but you'll want to keep in mind that if you are mounting it to a wall with studs you have to connect two studs using two 2x4's horizontally. Studs are generally 16 or 24 inches from center of stud to center of stud. I recommend downloading the bracket instruction manual for more details.

Q: I have a permanent basketball goal that is four inch cast iron with a cast iron arm and an iron plate welded on. The bolts go through the rim, through the backboard and through the plate. The rim bolt pattern is four inches across and three inches down. There is a stabilizing bar above the plate that has a hole seventeen and a half inches from the four inch hole on both sides, and seven teen and a half inches across. Do you have a backboard and rim that will fit this configuration? It was a standard configuration thirty years ago when it was constructed. Dick's told me this model would work, but the bolt pattern doesn't look right. Do you have a backboard and rim that will fit my dimensions?

A: There are 2 brackets that are compatible. One is adjustable and has about a 17 inch overhang and the other is not adjustable and has about a 9 inch overhang. The adjustable bracket is model 1044 and the nonadjustable bracket is model 9594. If you scroll down to the bottom of the page you will notice a link to both of the brackets in the comparison chart.

I installed the backboard rim and the quick adjustment bracket for the pole installation for my pool. The product is exactly what I wanted. My only complaint is that the directions were a bit confusing. The directions could use some pictures that are blown up to view how to install the parts to lesson the confusion. Hiwever I am happy with the final product. I spent a lot of time researching new basketball hoops for pools. My old one was very old and breaking down. Pool companies wanted thousands of dollars for a new built in basketball goal. This Lifetime goal was much cheaper and is solid.

Backboard And Rim
Backboard and rim arrived in perfect condition! The bracket arrived a couple days later. . . The instructions were ok but a bit confusing due to the fact there were multiple directions for different systems but once figured out it was pretty straightforward.

Excellent Backboard!
I replaced a 15 year old (Lifetime) backboard with this backboard and rim set and couldn’t be happier. Setup isn’t too difficult if you’ve replaced one of these previously. I also had the luxury of using my former setup (while it was still hanging) as a guideline as I put the new one together. Furthermore I was fortunate in that I simply attached this new unit to a pre-existing Lifetime pole.
