Purchasing Guide
Below are some questions and answers to help you determine if the Lifetime 91115 Adjustable Youth Basketball Hoop is the right basketball system for your young athlete.
Who is this basketball hoop best for?
The Lifetime 91115 is designed for young basketball players who are learning the fundamentals of the game. It is an excellent choice for children who have outgrown small toy basketball sets but are not yet ready for a regulation-size hoop. Its adjustable height, premium backboard, and youth-sized rim help build confidence while developing proper shooting form.
Why choose a youth basketball hoop instead of lowering a full-size hoop?
A youth basketball hoop is designed specifically for younger players. The smaller 30-inch backboard and 15-inch youth rim are proportioned to match children's size and strength, making shooting, passing, and rebounding feel more natural. This helps young athletes develop proper basketball fundamentals before transitioning to a full-size residential hoop.
What makes this youth hoop different from basic children's basketball sets?
Unlike many entry-level youth hoops that use molded plastic backboards and lightweight construction, the Lifetime 91115 features a steel-framed polycarbonate backboard, a steel pole, and a Slam-It® Jr. Rim. These premium materials provide greater durability, improved rebound, and a more realistic basketball experience while remaining appropriately sized for younger players.
How does the telescoping height adjustment work?
The telescoping adjustment system allows the rim height to be changed from 5.5 to 7.5 feet in 6-inch increments. This allows parents to lower the basket for younger children and gradually raise it as players grow, helping them develop proper shooting mechanics rather than forcing difficult shots at an adult-height basket.
What are the advantages of the steel-framed polycarbonate backboard?
The steel-framed polycarbonate backboard provides a more rigid playing surface than many molded plastic youth backboards. This results in more consistent rebounds while offering outstanding durability for years of outdoor play. It also gives the hoop a premium appearance that resembles larger residential basketball systems.
How stable is the Lifetime 91115 during play?
The 10-gallon Netball portable base is designed specifically for youth basketball. When properly filled with water or sand according to the manufacturer's instructions, it provides dependable stability while remaining lightweight enough to reposition around the driveway or backyard as needed.
Will this basketball hoop grow with my child?
Yes. The adjustable height range allows the hoop to grow alongside developing players, making it suitable for several years of use. Once a player consistently shoots comfortably at the maximum 7.5-foot height, they will likely be ready to transition to one of Lifetime's full-size adjustable basketball hoops with a regulation 10-foot maximum height.
How does the Lifetime 91115 compare with the Lifetime 90269?
Both models adjust from 5.5 to 7.5 feet and are designed for younger basketball players, but they use different backboard designs. The 91115 features a premium steel-framed polycarbonate backboard with a Slam-It® Jr. Rim, providing a firmer rebound and a more realistic playing experience. The 90269 uses a durable HDPE Impact® backboard and a traditional youth rim, making it an excellent value for recreational family play. Parents looking for the closest experience to a full-size basketball hoop will likely prefer the 91115.
