Lifetime 48-inch Backboard and Rim Combo 73729 Polycarbonate With Breakaway Rim

Just completed the install yesterday - out of the box, it seems to be a great hoop! Shot my first two baskets since our old hoop was demoed in our remodel four years ago, woo-hoo! There were only two (product-related) install glitches, neither affecting the product and both minor: the plastic backboard edge guard wasn't pre-drilled (anyone installing this can handle that). The other was relatively minor too: the plastic guard around the hoop hinge overlapped a little bit with the "one-direction push-washer" which made it very hard to install. A little more technical, but can be addressed with a few minutes' persistence (or a cut into the plastic if you're that way - not me).

Really impressed. We had the portable pole and backboard in front of our house when we moved in; neighbors said it was about 20 years old. Once the backboard cracked I was only looking for a partial replacement as the pole is in great shape, even the Y-mounting bracket less some rusted screws. The website made it easy to pick the right backboard and ensure my bracket and u-mount for the rim would all fit (Great FAQ's and online help to choose options). Even going from a 44 inch to 48 inch and bumping up the quality made no difference on compatibility. The old backboard was not easy to get off so I had just about every wrench, socket, and vice grip outside by the time I was done. Installation was pretty easy though with 2 wrenches and the instructions were far more detailed than I hoped after reading reviews. YouTube helped too. The only modification I did based on some reviews was drilling holes through the indents on the plastic molding (bottom), which made it much easier to drive screws. Shipping was a little slow and came about a week after the expected date but no fault of this website. I also bought the ball return from Competitive Edge so the whole package looks pretty slick outside. Very solid backboard even with the kids slamming brick shots off the glass, barely a wiggle and the rim is very responsive. I attached some before and after pics since it seems like a lot of people have the same Lifetime bracket setup. I may have just been lucky that everything matched perfectly but you should be fine reusing the y-bracket if it's in good shape. If not, easy enough to get a new one.

I replaced a 20 year old backboard and upgraded to this larger 48 in model. Upon receiving the backboard, I suddenly realized that the mounting hardware would not be compatible with my existing quick-adjust system and I called Lifetime Products, Inc. and my problem was resolved quickly and without cost. Customer Service agent Katherine Cook walked me through my problem and with pictures taken while on the phone a new mounting bracket was shipped without charge from Lifetime. At first I thought the new bracket would not work, but it was only due to my interpretation of the mounting manual issued. Please be aware that if your backboard has flaps that extend upward from the backboard, your mounting bracket rests on top of the metal flaps and does not sit directly against the backboard itself. Once I realized this, I quickly was able to put up my new backboard for the grand kids and neighborhood could use the basketball setup in our street. My highest regards to Lifetime!
