What to Know When Replacing a Backboard on a Spalding Basketball System
So, your backboard finally bit the dust. What now? Don't be too hasty with your next moves. Otherwise, you may find yourself with looming product returns, wasted money, wasted time, and a whole lot of unneeded frustration. In spite of what you may think, basketball system manufacturers do not build parts for one another. Meaning, you cannot have a Spalding basketball hoop and purchase a Lifetime backboard and have them be compatible. Here are some things to consider when purchasing a replacement backboard.

Because Spalding backboards are so tricky to work with - and Spalding does not publish much information to help you on your own - it is best to contact Spalding's customer service on the phone to confirm compatibility of a new backboard with your existing system. Is there any warranty on basketball backboard hoops? If so how long are the warranties. We have a pole b-ball hope that after 2 years, the backboard cracked. Need some advice how to replace.

The warranties are through the manufacturer. Which brand do you have? Lifetime is generally a five year warranty, but nobody has a warranty on tempered glass.

You can get replacement backboards, but if your system is 300 bucks or less, the best option is to buy a new one. You will spend at least a third of the cost of a new one on the replacement part....only to have the base break next. The 300 dollar range hoops (and less) are not made to last. If you get 5-10 years out of them you should feel like you got a deal!

According to the FAQs section on Spalding.com "Spalding basketball hoop systems only ship within the continental United States". I have 60x34 Spalding tempered glass. I need a replacement back board. I don’t have the correct model. But all the measurements are like a Spalding 88461G. I don’t care if it is tempered. A heavy duty poly would be ok. Can you help me locate one. That might fit my adjustable stand.

I have a Spalding 54in acrylic portable system. Storm blew it over and cracked the backboard in 2. Can only the acrylic with the square be replaced before I go to home depot and make my own?

Hello Daniel, yes, you can get a new backboard, but it isn't just a sheet of acrylic, it also includeas the frame the acrylic is glued to. You want to reach out to Spalding directly by calling them at 800-558-5234.

Backboard broke after 1.5 years and base started leaking after 6 months. The base I was able to repair but not the backboard and replacement is more than a complete system. I will never buy another.

Hi Charley, I just wanted to say thank you for this really helpful site! I'm trying to replace the backboard & rim on my 8-year-old Spalding pole system, and would have been lost. I've already got the answer here -- call Spalding! But this saved me from ordering just based on dimensions alone. I found the part no. of my old bracket, confirmed it is not the same as any of the ones now in use, and will find out from them whether there is a converter or whether I need a new bracket for a new board.
