Spalding 54-Inch Inground Basketball Hoop

The Spalding 881365 acrylic 54 inch backboard in ground system provides many institutional grade features at a fraction of the cost. This model provides you the sturdiness of 4x4 inch square post at the price range of a 3.5" round post. The acrylic backboard material provides a superior rebound to traditional plastic based backboards. Also, this system comes with a backboard pad for added stability and protection against collisions. Just about anyone can have fun using this system by using the U-Turn lift mechanism, which allows you to adjust the rim height anywhere from 7.5 ft. all the way up to regulation height, 10 ft.

Backboard

Backboard dimensions: 54 inches W x 32 inches H.
Backboard material: Acrylic Backboard.
Acrylic material measures 5/32 inch thick.
Comes with an Arena Slam Breakaway Rim.
Backboard comes with a board pad for added stability of the system and added protection for players.

Pole

The pole is a 4x4 inch square post.
Pole assembly: 3 pieces.
Powder coated steel helps pole resist rusting.
Made from 14 gauge steel.
Includes ground sleeve for easy installation and removal of the pole in and out of the ground.
Pole cap included to help prevent rain water for getting inside pole.

Height Adjuster

DO NOT BUY SPALDING AND DO NOT BUY THIS PRODUCT

DO NOT BUY THIS GOAL UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE. I learned the hard way. The instructions ask you to use the “Ground Sleeve” for installation. The instructions offer no mention of why you should use the “Ground Sleeve”. Once installed the “Ground Sleeve” allows the backboard to wobble 3+ inches back and forth. The instructions leave out some things and the quality just isn’t good. I highly recommend buying a different model and brand of in ground basketball goal. DO NOT BUY SPALDING.
Response from Spalding: The ground sleeve design is for system portability. If the customer were to ever move they could take the system with them to their new location and just leave the sleeve in the ground. In terms of pole movement in the sleeve, it can be reduced by adding plastic or wooden shims between the concrete and sleeve. The customer can also go around and use concrete as if it were caulked around the edge to help seal off any gap that may exist. I hope this helps.

awesome goal

this is an awesome setup for the price but you must take the time to install it correctly. After ground sleeve is set in concrete, assemble 3 piece Square pole put back and ground sleeve and run Rebar all the way through bottom to top just short of bolt holes. This makes for a much stiffer pole. Follow directions carefully. I used exactly 1,040 pounds of concrete. 13 eighty pound bags. Rent a portable mixer believe me you will be glad you did!when done properly this unit has a very professional feel to it. My son loves it.

The quality is just as good as a $1500.00 one! The price was something I could afford and my kids love it!(AFTER I GET A REPLACEMENT BACK BOARD WHICH WAS BROKEN IN SHIPPING) (Updated on 5/29/2013.)

Best goal system for the money

Arrived on front porch exactly as promised and well packed and protected. Very well designed and instructions clear. In ground system is more involved than I expected but not hard if have two people to help with lifting assembled goal system.

Cracked backboard

I ordered two of the in-ground systems and one of the backboards were cracked when I opened up the box. Customer service was not open on Saturday when I called,but I left a message. I hope they will resolve this quickly. (Updated on 3/25/2013.)

Broken in Box

backboard came in cracked to 2 places. Called customer service which in turn called Spalding to get it replaced and was told they are on back order and it will be mid Feb. before it will be shipped. I know its not Competitive Edge's fault but not happy with the delay

A: Yes, you can buy just a backboard and rim combo, and a pole mounting kit to mount to a pole, any of our pole brackets will work with a 3.5" round pole. Our Lifetime Brackets and backboards are all compatible with each other if you buy both from us. If you choose a Spalding one then look in the description for the compatibility chart so you get a backboard and mounting kit that will work together.

Q: What is the preparation for installation. Do I need a certain type of concrete mounted pipe?

A: This system includes a ground sleeve which you will secure in the ground using concrete. This way if you ever need to move the system, then you can leave the ground sleeve in the ground, pull up the system, and purchase a new ground sleeve to put the system in.
