Q: Is it possible to erect the tent on concrete?

Asked by: Karen Anne Paul - 2/24/2026
A: Stakes vs. Concrete: The tent comes with 12-inch steel stakes designed for soil or sand. To set it up on concrete, you would need alternative anchoring methods (such as heavy weights, sandbags, or drilling for concrete anchors) because the frame will not support itself without being secured to the ground.

Q: The pics show metal stake loops...is this the case now? Some older questions and descriptions about these say they didn't have them..

Asked by: Mike - 2/1/2026
A: Yes it definitely has the newer metal stake loops even though older questions reference the nylon stake loops.

Q: How hard would this be to erect over a typical state park picnic table? Trying to imagine setting up the roof poles on a picnic table...do you think this can be done?

Asked by: Gloria - 4/21/2022
A: I do not think that it would fit unfortunately, though I recommend checking with Kodiak. Please allow me to refer you to the manufacturer's customer service where they should be able to assist you with this. Here is the contact info: Kodiak Canvas - tel. 801-510-3983, and their email address is [email protected]

Q: Can the two windows with awnings be completely opened? I mean, can the mesh be zipped out or at least opened to the point so that this screen house can be used as a walk through canopy? Has anyone used it over a picnic table? I want to know if it is difficult to erect over a bolted down picnic table. Any photos of it being used this way? I’m trying to see if this screen house could be as versatile as the Springbar leisure port. Thanks!

Asked by: Natasha R Cummings - 12/26/2021
A: The large front and large back window/door can be completely opened. The size triangular windows cannot be completely opened to be used other than as zipped windows.

Q: Could this screen house be used at the beach or would it be impossible to stake it properly in sand?

Asked by: Natasha R Cummings - 10/25/2021
A: It would depend on the type of sand, these are 12" long stakes, so they will work well in all but the loosest of ground. I believe Amazon sells special Stakes for use in loose Sand

Q: Is this tent okay to sleep in or would you better recommend using it for lounging throughout the day? (Eating meals, reading, relaxing, etc.)

Asked by: Maddie - 7/15/2015
A: This is actually not a tent, but a screen house. It has no floor and cannot be sealed off completely from the outside. The product definitely is more suited for lounging and doing the activities you outline.

I did a lot of lurking and research before purchasing this tent. I have owned many tents over the years. The first time I saw the value in a large canvas tent that can fit a picnic table in plus 6 surfers was an Outer Banks, NC surf trip many years ago. I started doing multiday/camping Dual Sport Motorcycles events (car trailer) and this will be perfect. Drop a 8x10 floor on one half and the other is your garage. First set-up was pretty easy and I intentionally seasoned it and let it up for a few days thru some rough weather. Perfectly seasoned, dried and, rolled into my old issued Sea Bag. Get the 12 inch thread stakes.

Like having your own personal pavilion. 5 stars.
My wife and I have the Kodiak truck tent, two big bear chairs, XLT sleeping bag, the camping quilt. So it was obvious to us where to go to get a screen house. We are not big fans of biting flies, mosquitos and such. We would use pop-up canopy's but would have to spray up with repellant which we try to limit. Couldn't play cards after dark due to the lantern attracting every moth and flying insect. That is what drove us to purchase the Kodiak Canvas Utility tent. Sets up like the "Flex-Bow" tents but has no floor. Easily holds everything we needed to enjoy long weekends and play cards all night. The table in the image is a five foot table. Plenty of room to walk around it. In the overnight we would park our bicycles inside and zip the sides down. Very pleased with this purchase,.....as usual. Thanks Kodiak.Review Source: Kodiakcanvas.com

Utility Tent is Great
Got the tent two months ago, went to GSMNP where I go camping regularly. Set it up the first time at the campsite, over the picnic table. Had my dad with me so I let him use a tent on the pad, and I slept in the utility tent. Laid down a tarp, was able to cook on the picnic table, plenty of room for stuff, and my cot, and for cooking. When it rained we were able to sit under the awning. Unless I set it up wrong, it seems to want flat ground - we had a slope on one corner and it would not set up taut on that side (to the ground). Other side was perfect. Great versatility. One tip on the awnings (of any tent) - stake at an angle towards the outer sides of the tent, not perpendicular to the awning sides. This allow a taut awning. Also, I use adjustable poles for the awning (I own other Kodiak tents). Besides flexibility for height, I can easily drop a side when its raining - no polling. I really enjoyed using it and look forward to the next time.Review Source: Kodiakcanvas.com

Highly Recommended
Usual sturdy Kodiak build. First outing was challenged by a nearby tornado and monsoon level rains. We opted to ride out the storm in this structure instead of our Kodiak tent. Some expected seepage around the ground (no floor) but not a drop through windows and door seals. And hardly a shake in 50+ mph winds. Sturdy, comfortable, reliable. Highly, highly recommended.

Kodiak, Screenhouse
I've used the Kodiak Flexbow tent for 3 seasons now; it is rugged and has kept my family dry in some pretty severe storms over the years. Since it always seems to storm/rain when we camp I wanted to upgrade our Cooking shelter to something that would withstand the elements. I purchased both the Kodiak Screenhouse and the Springbar Leisure Port to compare them. Both are top notch and will serve you well. My preference though was the Kodiak Screenhouse. I thought the craftmanship and quality was superior and the floor layout with the Kodiak Screenhouse better suited my needs (more covered surface area). If you are looking to keep the bugs out, the Leisure Port did not hug the ground as nicely as the Screenhouse. The Leisure Port has its advantages with the design, but the Kodiak Screenhouse better suited my personal camping needs.

MUST have "kitchen tent"
We absolutely love this tent! We have a small camping trailer but we prefer to cook Outdoors on our Camp Chef. We set the stove up on one end place a table for plates and food perpendicular along one side then have our coolers on the other end. We use this for fun family camping in the summer and have all the screens open for maximum ventilation and air flow. This keeps all the bugs out while we are cooking our yummy meals. It also blocks the wind so you are not fighting the wind trying to cook. In the winter time and during cold hunts, it is even better because the heat from the stove keeps it nice and toasty. Obviously, you have to leave a portion of a door open to get some ventilation. If it is cold outside, we even set up a few camping chairs inside and enjoy our meals in this nice spacious tent. The only complaint I have is I wish it were a couple feet wider like my old Spring Bar which is no longer made. 12x14 would be perfect dimensions for this use. In spite of that, absolutely love this tent and it's wonderful versatile design.Review Source: Kodiakcanvas.com

Camper and Chef
I came to this website to buy a Kodiak FlexBow tent, after having camped in friends' Kodiaks several times over the years. (I'm converting back to ground tents from Tentsile tree tents as I get too old to swing through the trees to set up my tents.) The ONLY Kodiak Canvas product in stock was this screen house, but after watching their video which states that it can be used as a tent, I realized it was the PERFECT Kodiak for Texas camping, which is usually hot and humid, so the HUGE screen windows on all 4 sides would provide a much more comfortable camping experience the majority of the time. It arrived the same week, but a day late, thanks to FedEx, so I missed out on a major expedition I had prepaid for, but couldn't take because I wasn't equipped. Boooooo FedEx, and PAY for the expedited shipping, people! It sets up exactly like a FlexBow, which means one person can do it easily in 15 minutes or less. The only ding I can give this tent is that, since there is no floor, the waterproof roof lays directly on the ground as you walk on it to set everything up. I'm nervous I will eventually poke a hole in the roof and lose the waterproofing. (I may attempt to set the ground tarp down before setting up to provide protection for the roof, and then readjust it to sit on the inside of the tent after it's erect.)Other than that, this tent is JUST like a FlexBow, but without the heavy bathtub floor, and with tons of extra airflow. I've already had one truly spectacular long weekend in it, and love the spaciousness. The canvas it a bit lighter than the other FlexBows I've stayed in, so I don't anticipate this to be a lifelong tent, like a FlexBow is, but the price is fantastic, it's lighter than a FlexBow, and for Texas camping, you can't beat it!

10x14' Screen House with Vestibule
I have owned a spring bar product much like this for years. It took about an hour to set up since it had several design flaws; it was not on the market very long. By comparison Kodiak's product is superior in design, functionality and workmanship. Biggest plus for me during setup is that the poles all have a static length; no guessing and adjusting one side then the other until it sort of looks right. The canvas is much cooler inside than the vinyl material used in the other one I have, and the side wall window are large with closure flaps. This product is a floor-less all season tent with maximum ventilation for hot season camping. No floor is better for cots, tables, heaters and other furniture.Review Source: Kodiakcanvas.com
