Q: In one of the photos, it appears that there is an extension of the surface area. Is that an option or just the angle of the picture?

Asked by: Kevin D Fabig - 3/5/2026
A: There isn't an extension for the surface area. If you see some older photos you might notice the side shelf/rack was changed from solid to a the open rack that connects to the top of side of the stove. There's no extension, just possibly the angle of the photo or an old photo showing the old flat and solid rack versus the wire rack which is the newer design.

Q: Do you think installing a dampener in the stove pipe is necessary? Or even worth the effort in this stove.

Asked by: Jason - 11/3/2025
A: The Colorado Cylinder Stoves no longer include dampers. The baffles on the stove door are more effective in controlling oxygen levels to the fire on the cylinder stoves. The panel stove doesn't have as tight of a seal so it does require a damper, but not this spruce stove.

Q: Has anyone used this in the Kodiak 12x16 cabin tent? Wondering if that large of tent needs a bigger stove.

Asked by: Broc - 9/14/2024
A: Great question. The Spruce works in the 12x16 really well. It might struggle in zero and subzero temperatures though. If your climate is below 32 degrees for camping you might consider the larger Timberline. If you are doing some cold winter camping, but not much less than 32 degrees or so you'd be just fine with the Spruce.

Great stove!
I have the medium Spruce stove and I’m using it in a 10x10 Kodiak lodge tent. This stove is very high quality in every way including a very good set of pipes, it’s better than the Camp Chef in every way. Don’t let them fool you on not needing a pipe damper though, it is essential in a stove this size in a tent or any stove for that matter. It took me $10 and 10 minutes to solve this issue so don’t let that stop you from buying one of the best quality stoves on the market for its type but they need to rethink not including a damper or the pre drilled holes in the pipe. I’d recommend it to my best friends or family, it’s very well designed minus the damper issue. I love this stove and I’ve had several from compact titanium versions to larger size stoves and this is my favorite!

Deep warm heat
I've got a few mr buddy heaters and they don't even compare to this. Pros: you can burn whatever you gather, it's much hotter than the Mr buddy, it's also a dry heat and the Mr buddy I feel like I'm breathing in humidity or something, this thing is rock solid. I've had mine now for probably 5 plus years. Cons: it's on more thing to pack, you have to bring your fuel if you're not in the woods where you can freely gather

incredible
Got it with my kodiak tent, but also have it for emergency preparedness cause it would work perfectly for that without needing propane.
